I imagine this case being very popular for cosplay situations where you want a cheap vibe like you have the nuclear codes in a briefcase handcuffed to you. This is most likely by far the right choice for that use, because it is exceptionally durable and well manufactured for a fake briefcase, but the absolute bottom of the barrel in actual suitcase manufacturing. But, do you need a fancy case? This is more of a thing when you want to carry something that is not normally kept in a case. This would be a back-up thing, and not the sort of case you want to drag around town as your primary case. I have packed it full and not broken the handle yet, but I would hate to get off a plane and have to rely on this case to not get bent, punctured, or dropped in a way that tests the integrity of its construction. This is more the type of case to get if you want to improvise on a low-stakes solution and you don't plan to test the case's endurance by traveling with it heavily. However, I took this on a car ride to Florida and I didn't feel doubtful that it could handle that level of abuse. It handled the task just fine. This would also be the type of case to get if you have a project that might lead you to cut a hole through the outer shell. This one would be easy to cut through with a skill saw, like for a science fiction prop involving wires and hoses or gages, as long as you are cautious not to put gashes in the aluminum of the exterior.

I have had 2 of these for about 20 YEARS, carried them with me in an 18-wheeler for 10 YEARS and they still look great and PERFORM FLAWLESSLY. Last week I bought 2 more- they are exactly the same as my old ones! OK, the carry handle is different. The new handles are better than the old ones and better looking! I use them to hold minidiscs and DAT tapes. The 2 new ones will hold audio cassettes. Some people can ruin anything. I have always valued these as good looking cases and given them the respect they deserve. If you want something that can survive being dropped in the driveway or tossed out of a window I would suggest buying a steel ammo box.

I have had this now for almost a year and it is still doing the job it was intended for. It holds my laptop, cords and other things I need while traveling or visiting with a customer. I have had no problems with the locks or any kind of breakage or bending. I love it, could not be without it now. You can't pack it like you would a heavier briefcase, but this is just perfect for those office or study items. I have had my laptop,cords,3 notebooks, pens, markers, calculator and cds in it on a trip and it held them all. My wife uses hers as a cd caddy and dvd case. It holds her tablet, dvd player and up to 8 dvds without any problems. The only downside we have is the handle which isn't that strong, so we will sometimes carry it under our arm or put a strap around it.

I bought this briefcase several months ago. At first, I was hesitant about buying an aluminum briefcase, as I have always used leather briefcases. I decided to give the aluminum material a chance and I am happy I did. So far, the briefcase meets and exceeds my expectations. The aluminum briefcase is definitely more durable than the leather briefcase of the same price range.

Color will change. It will be coyote or FDE painted. This blingBling has got to go.
When modifying this, yeah it's like cardboard with aluminum foil.. meh. For the price and as a hobby box, yah.

Used to make a DIY laptop stand for work! I bought this briefcase with the sole intention of making it into a magnetic laptop mount to hang on the metal walls at work

The briefcase itself seems to be pretty thin and cheaply made. But for $40 or so you can't beat it

Right off the bat, one of the hinges was broken. But I was able to fix that. Surprisingly this holds my laptop, couple ethernet cords and some screwdrivers

Worth the money and I didn't have to spend $150 on a stand I knew I could make myself

The second one was almost as good. Although, I was disappointed that the lining along the back wasn’t glued down at all. Nothing that superglue couldn’t fix. Also, the combination locks are customizable, but I had to google how to set them up because it doesn’t come with instructions.

i bought it because i was going to go out of the country and needed something to keep my laptop and tablet safe from any drops, or crushing that i may go through in the airport. in the end they let me take it with me as my carry on without any trouble. i have had it for 6 months now and it has gotten some dents in it but the locks still work pretty good. no it is NOT a safe for you to carry millions of dollars in, dont expect it to be high security. if you have millions of dollars in the first place then you can go and buy one that costs 200 times more than this one. if someone actually tried to open it with a screwdriver or something, it could easily be done. but if youre going to just need it to keep electronics or documents stored, then its more than perfect for you.

I previously had a model of this briefcase before, but lost it in a flood. It was slightly different in that it had a shoulder strap that you could snap on that I really liked -- wish it still had that feature. But otherwise, this has worked really well, and people really notice it! I honestly don't understand what some of the negative reviews are about -- I think some people just abuse their stuff really harshly. Either that, or people are being stupid and not pulling out the temporary red pins that hold the locks in place during shipping -- that will ruin the locks really fast!

Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2018

I love the sharp look of this case. Folks often ask if I have the nuclear codes in it. It also is light weight, which is really appealing.

My gripe is that the handle is made of plastic made to look like polished aluminum, and it broke. Specifically, the plastic pegs that hold the handle to the handle mounts of the case both snapped. For no reason other than they were lightweight plastic pegs. This is a design flaw. Had the manufacturer merely used two metal pegs this would not have happened. Instead, I was stuck with a $30 luggage repair bill a year and a half after buying this case, which I use only a couple of days per week.

The alignment of the lids is off a bit, which causes the latches to be difficult to close. The zippers and snaps on the top are very cheap. The zipper already broke on the first day. However, as I don't use that pocket I don't care.
Bottom line, if you plan on using this very seldom, it will work for you. If you want something for everyday use, do not buy this.

I bought one of these about two years ago and it fell apart. It was rarely carried anywhere--basically used to store papers in my apartment. I thought maybe it fell apart so quickly because I tried to store too much stuff in the upper pockets and decided it would replace it and try to make it last by not over-filing lt. New one case today and after setting the combination (which was difficult because the the numbers seemed loose) I locked the case and then could not open the lock on one side. Don't think it was because I forgot the combination, because I always use the same combination and used the same combo for both locks. Possibly the loose tumblers were the culprit. Anyway, will probably be returning this for a refund and would NOT recommend it.

If you are looking for a cheap brief case, this could be what you are looking for.

We were hoping for something to put things in that we could lock up without having to buy a safe. We ordered this, and the lock was already broken on one side the day we pulled it out of the box. We sent it back and got another one. The locks seemed to work, so we kept it. After a few weeks I tested the locks. When i put just a little extra pressure on the opening mechanism, even if the lock code was incorrectly coded in, the lock just pops open. Happens on both sides of the brief case. Too late to return now for a full refund. Oh well. It works as a non-secure brief case.

2.0 out of 5 stars A cheap product that used to be cheap to buy.

I purchased this in 06/2014, so for this briefcase to have survived almost 2 years places it in the "well made" category.

I have no idea why the life expectancy of these things are so low, but I can count on replacing one every 12 to 36 months. I can't see that what I am putting the product through is all that tough. It goes from the house to the trunk of the car, into work where it will sit on a table and then into the truck where it will sit for several hours and then back to the trunk of the car. But from the way these things fall apart you would think I'm the gorilla from the old Samsonite commercials.

Common failures that I've come to expect from these things.

Material Separation on the inside. The lining peels away on the interior top or bottom or both.

Material Separation on the outside, The "aluminum" peels off if metal or the fake leather comes apart and seperates from the particle board shell.

Internal Hinge Failure: anything from no longer being able to hold the lid open to completely breaking apart and/or falling off of the briefcase. Every single RoadPro case I've had has had this issue.

External Hinge failure: I've had one or both external hinges at the back completely fail before.

Front Latch Failure: This is a guaranteed failure. One of several things is going to happen. A: One or both latches will break and become useless. B: The release catch will fail and or jam up becoming useless. Most common is that one of the two spring loaded latches will break or fall off.

Handle Failure: Usually the handle just falls off. But every once in awhile it begins a slow disintegration before falling off.

My current briefcase is suffering from the following. Internal separation, internal hinge failure, external latch failure (missing one) and the handle fell off.

So why do I continue to use these things? And why a two star rating if they're so bad? Well, because it's the most efficient way for me to carry the things I need and up until now these things were relatively inexpensive to replace. I was okay paying 23.00 in 2014. Im not going to pay 30.00 for it now. Even the cheaper "leather" cases have gotten overpriced. So I'm looking at other alternatives.

I had bought this model RoadPro a few years ago and it lasted for a while. I replaced it with a new one just 4 months ago and the latch broke in a weird place (pictured). It must have had a metal flaw. The company said that I am out of the warranty period and they did not offer to make good with a replacement. I would have been a loyal customer if they had acted in good faith as I found the first one to be very adequate for my purposes and the price was right.

I wish I could say this is a good product but it's the typical poorly made stuff you see from over seas. Opened it up, tried to use the internal pocket zipper 1 time and what do you know? It broke immediately. 10 out of 10 don't recommend.

Bought this for my husband, looked great. He liked it.
Bought it July 2011 - in June 2012 one latch broke. He continued to use it with one latch.
Now in early August 2012 the 2nd latch broke.
I'm shopping for a new briefcase, but I'm passing on trying another of these.

I agree with others about the lock latches also the product gets damaged and scratched like cheese. I had mine damaged so easily and I had only kept it at home so far. so I decided to see what it was made of and a so called aluminum case is just a thin piece of wood covered by a fragile aluminum foil( much like the kitchen aluminum foil).see the pictures.

If u could do zero stars I would. The briefcase was scuffed and beaten up. The main point is that BOTH latches were broken, making it totally unusable. Surely that was noticeable when it was packed up. I will NEVER use this company again

I read the reviews but still bought this in May 2011. Figured that if I babied it, I could make it last at least a year. About 95 days is how long it lasted. One of the latches broke off. And it wasn't being stressed, I was trying to close it and it snapped off. When you look at how the latches are constructed, I'm surprised it lasted this long. They appear to be made of pot metal.

This item was broken when it arrived. Why would a metal carry case have plastic lock mechanisms? If they would have been metal it might have survived. I would suggest looking elsewhere.

When I pulled it out it was damaged and dented. Because it was a birthday gift for my son, I didn’t have time to return it or replace it. I was very disappointed that it was in this condition. I would like to request at least a partial refund as I expected it to be in mint condition for the price.

I recently purchased this briefcase and when I opened it it was exactly as I expected until I began to change the locks. The locks seemed very cheap and didn't roll smoothly. It also was very unclear on how to reset the combo for the locks. Instead of trying to mess with it I just decided not to deal with it. I needed this for work and the times I have must be under "lock and key" and with the locks not working properly I didn't want to be fumbling around with the locks and not be able to open it when needed. Unfortunately, I had to return the product the same day I received it and now need to look for something else more suitable that I can use flawlessly and with ease.

We bought this for our 8-year old son. He loves spy stuff so we thought this would be a great gift for him since it looks like a spy briefcase. We gave it to him for Christmas. He loved it until he tried using it. The locks didn't work from day one. We had to break one of the locks in order for us to retrieve his stuff from inside of it. Don't buy this because the locks are garbage and get stuck.

The first one we received, the numbers were very difficult to move, and eventually it wouldn't unlock at all. We had to break it to get our stuff out. The second one, the clasp just broke it and we're stuck with a case we can't use or return. JUNK

Vary bad quality. Ordered two to use as briefcases for cosmetics but never got a chance to use them. One of the briefcases go locked because the lock numbers would not turn past #4. The code i had just set up on it started with a 5. The second briefcase had a similar problem but I never even got as far as trying to set the combination on that one.

This case is not fit to store paper plates. The locks are very poor quality, hard to turn the digits. The latches extend out exposing the locking tab. The stiching is already come undone on the pockets. The case lid will not stay open. You get the idea.

I had this product for 2 weeks. It looks really nice and some friends were considering buying it as well. As we stood talking, someone walked by me and accidentally bumped it. It fell to the ground as I was left holding the handle. Very cheap/poor construction. Needless to say my friends are no longer interested in purchasing this product. Save your money.
