5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bag, You Won't be Disappointed!

Looked at a lot of bags on Amazon and settled on this one. Price, compartments and 100% leather was my criteria for buying it. Man it sure is a nice bag and I'm not the least bit disappointed. I wasn't sure it was going to hold all my gear but it does in spades. I carry my work flat notebook 9 x 11 ½, MacBook Air 13" in back compartment and it well protected. Next Compartment is my iPad Pro with Otterbox Defender case, that's a padded compartment. There also another compartment alongside the padded compartment but I don't need it. Under the front flap is a zipper compartment with a pouch I keep 2 checkbooks, spot for 3 pens and a business card holder for cards. On the back is another compartment for slim papers. All the compartments have a zipper over them. The bag is a really soft leather and smooth. In my picture it looks like it's faded but that's the light when I took the picture. I don't drag it around too much, it goes from my house to my truck where it stays most of the day unless I need it in my office. It got rained on the the other day and looks like new. I was in Office Depot the other day and looking at their bags and they had nothing as nice and were a lot more expensive. I had my last bag for 10 years and didn't think I would find something to replace it but this fills the bill. Not in the least disappointed and recommend it a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best professional leather messenger bag
Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2018
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
I’ve had this bag now for little over three months and use it everyday for work. I did a lot of research on which bag I wanted to purchase for my new job and narrowed it down to two. I was looking for a leather messenger bag that was professional and could fit a laptop. I finally picked this one and I have no regrets!
The bag is fashionable and professional. I get a lot of compliments and comments at work. The bag is durable and have had no issues with it the zipper, tears, etc.
It holds my 15” laptop with ease. On top of that, I can put in my padfolio, 2-3 books, pens, notebooks, newspaper and charging cable. The pockets are are big and deep, which allows me to nicely fit my iPad mini with ease. I can already tell that I’ll be using this bag for many years to come.
The only con that I could find, and it’s not even that big of a problem, is that the buckles to open the flap is tough to do. You really have to push down on the clasps to release the buckle, and it can be hard to do at times. Or if you’re in a hurry to get something out of your bag, it might be a bit embarrassing trying to mess around with the buckle.
Overall, I am extremely happy with this bag. With all the research I did for professional leather messenger bags, and for the pricing point, I highly recommend this bag. More bang for the buck, and it’ll last you for many years. Save the time and effort and purchase this bag if this is what your looking for. You won’t regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very professional looking briefcase at a reasonable price
Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2016

Initially, I saw this bag listing in a store for ~$350. It gave me a chance to see the bag up close in person. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the price, though I seriously considered it at that price (this should give you some idea about this briefcase). I found it on Amazon for ~$120. I was still on the fence as I was looking for the perfect briefcase. Then, it was on sale for $88 and I could not say no. If you are buying at sub-$100, you cannot go wrong with this briefcase for the following reasons:

-It looks very professional.
-It has lots of space (a 15.6" laptop plus other items)
-You really don't need other reasons (though it does have lots of nice pockets for thinner items).
-

Downsides:
-It is genuine leather. It is not full-grain like it is advertised. I knew this going into my purchase as I saw the briefcase in person. It is worth noting though so you are not misled. Still, this just means the briefcase is less rugged than it would otherwise be. Don't beat it up and it will be gorgeous.

I purchased this exact same messenger bag back in 2007 and I received many complements of the bag. I’m a teacher and a professor of science and was told these complements by teenagers through deans at the university level. Be sure to get the lighter color as it looks great the longer it’s worm in. The only reason I purchased a new one was because the leather on the shoulder strap was tearing at the seams. I got the new bag and am glad little has changed except the back pocket is zipper closed rather than closed using a magnetic. It’s perfect for carrying laptops, lots of papers that need to be graded and I use it as my carrying luggage wherever I travel. It even fits in European economy commuter flights like Ryan Air with no problem. I’ve tried all of the luxury brands and nothing compares to the quality and longevity of this item. I would not buy it if you want it to remain looking new. It scuffs, fades, and wears in beautifully and you look like a professional and intellectual the more you use it. Perfect bag for 15in laptop with tons of space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts a lifetime (at least the lifetime of a muskrat)

I've had this bag for six years now, and I still like it. The leather is in great shape. The buckles, zippers, and straps are all holding up great.

Remember when laptops were about two inches thick? Well, this bag has a padded pocket with a velcro-closing strap to hold one of those ThinkPads you've still got, plus it has a zippered pocket to hold a MacBook Air. So when you go through airport security, you can turn this bag into three bins; the people behind you will be amazed. You can keep the two chargers inside, and your iPad and Kindle in the outside pocket along with a hard copy book (just in case).

It will also hold a couple pens, plenty of business cards (unless you're in sales), and usb cables to charge your phones.

The padded strap will keep this bag comfortably on your shoulder, unless you're running through the airport, in which case you might want to put the strap across your chest, messenger bag style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile bag that can be used for business or casually

I own the Kenneth Cole Risky Business bag  Kenneth Cole Risky Business Messenger Bag  in brown as well and had that for a good while before switching to this bag. I also own a Kenneth Cole Rest My Case bag  Kenneth Cole Reaction Luggage I Rest My Case  in black that I was using for work. This bag has replaced both as my go to bag. There are a few reasons for that, which I will go into. I'm not going to go too in depth about the features of the bag, since plenty of other reviews have done that, but want to focus on comparing these three for someone who is considering the other bags.

The Risky Business bag is a really clean looking bag, but has no support in the interior. That meant most of the items inside moved around a lot and it wasn't a very good laptop bag due to the lack of padding on the inside. The structure of the bag was fairly flimsy, so the file folders I used for work got bent up sometimes. The handle on top of that bag wasn't especially usable since there was no structural support for that bag, so grabbing the handle on the run with a full bag sometimes meant things spilling all over the place. The Show Business bag solves the issues of that bag, although looks a little less casual. There are big padded and gusseted compartments on the inside that protect your laptop and papers much better than the Risky Business bag. The clips on the straps also keep the flap secure, which is something the magnets on the Risky Business bag didn't do well. This bag is bigger though, but I think the size increase isn't too big of a jump.

The Rest My Case bag was very professional looking, but I preferred the flap messenger style. The interior of this bag is laid out very similarly, but the flap is nice to have in order to quickly store items without messing with a zipper. There is also a velcro patch that secures the open pocket in the rear, which is nice. Although it would seem like having zippered compartments would be more secure compared to the Show Business bag, I haven't had anything fall out. The flap is also nice for when I don't want to zip close the pockets but still want some type of protection from rain. I will admit that the Rest My Case bag looked more like a laptop bag and much more formal, especially in black, but the Show Business bag bridges the gap between the casual of the Risky Business bag while adding all the strengths of the Rest My Case bag. It looks casual enough in brown leather that I can bring it to the office, but not to the point where it looks like it is just for work, like the Rest My Case bag.

For those considering one of the other bags I mentioned, give this bag some consideration before making your purchase. This bag is more versatile than the other two and combines the best features of both. If I only had to buy one, I would have bought this bag first. Granted, I'm a guy who loves having different accessories (men in a professional environment can only get away with different briefcases/bags, watches, and colored ties to show our individuality most of the time) so I sometimes break out the other two, but if you want a bag that can go from the office to the coffee shop to your weekend out of town without looking out of place in any environment, this is the one.

I was worried that the buckles would be annoying to undo each time but I realized there were clasps underneath the buckles and the buckles were just for decoration! I loved this! It makes it very convenient to open and close and makes a satisfying click each time! The size is perfect and there are many compartments and pockets to use! I highly recommend!

I purchased my first Ken Cole Reaction bag in Cognac in 2017. I purchased my second (an identical bag) six months later as a gift to a good friend (he loved it). I purchased two others (one in black and one dark brown) in January 2019 (these were gently used/discounted by Amazon and a great value - I organize projects by bag).
I read the positive and negative reviews -- and I am no expert on leather (albeit my family owns many leather coats and other bags/brief cases). The Ken Cole bag serves me well -- lots of storage space. I think these are high quality bags, especially worth the discounted price I paid for bags 3 and 4.

This is an extremely nice bag. It is large enough to hold a 15" laptop and is well padded to protect it. It is also quite roomy; containing several compartments for miscellaneous papers and notebooks, etc. The outer pocket snaps shut with an internal magnet, which is nice, and has easy buckle enclosures for the pockets on the other side. I like the fact that it has large pockets on the inside for a mouse and computer gear, and then other pockets for pencils and pens and cards, and your phone! The leather is quite supple, very soft to the touch. And it looks like it is very well put together and can handle being thrown around a bit without falling apart at the seams. I like that the shoulder strap comes with a wider piece of leather over the strap so it fits more comfortably on your shoulder. This is an extremely nice, roomy, well made man bag! Best one I've had so far, and at an unbeatable price at $127.00. The leather and workmanship is just outstanding.

Ordered dark brown initially and then exchanged for cognate. Really great quality and my boyfriend gets compliments on it regularly. The dark brown looks very modern but the stitching looks almost orange. The cognate is great; stitching blends with the color. The leather is a good quality.
The buckles slide in underneath the fake buckles on the exterior, which could be kind of annoying if you're a "shove my stuff in the bag and go" kind of guy. But that hasn't been a bother for my boyfriend yet. The briefcase has multiple compartments that you can store things in, including a pocket that you can keep pens in, and a laptop area that includes a strap to keep the laptop from falling out. Great briefcase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, stylish, but not over-the-top, messenger bag with thoughtful design

This bag is just beautiful! It is tremendously stylish, but not flashy or over the top. Perfect for any business occasion (if you ask me). The leather is gorgeous and of excellent quality--soft and great texture like all genuine leather should be (but often is not)! The bag maintains its attractive shape whether empty or full. The fact that the large outside pocket closes magnetically, as opposed to with a zipper, is an attractive and crafty plus.

Every inside feature (you can look at other reviews for this information) is well thought out and useful. One of the inside sections has a zipper pocket which is sized especially for tablet devices and is a nice touch. However, there are three rectangular-sized pockets one next to each other, attached to one middle section divider (which it spans the whole length of), which I have a hard time imagining a use for. A large laptop charger fits perfectly into one of these rectangular squares, but it disproportionately fattens up one side of the bag unless you fill up the other pockets, too. I would not consider this a con--time will tell how I will make a use of these pockets.

I bought this because I am about to get out of college and I wanted something more professional than a back-pack. I did exhaustive research and this seemed to be the best option in my price range, I think I was right. There are several big pockets for books, a computer and iPad as well as smaller pockets for cords, a mouse and the ever handy novel. There is even an external pouch where I keep my sketch book at hand. The leather is very nice and so far has survived road trips, heavy rain and a bike wreck with no damage (I was surprised at that). The strap and connectors seem strong as well and I like the way the handle is done to allow carrying without latching. It hangs a little weird but A:all shoulder bags will to an extent and B:a friend of mine has a different bag and it hangs really weird so mine is not that bad. I get compliments all the time, I love this bag and carry it everywhere.

I've used probably a dozen different briefcases and backpacks over the years. When I purchased the Kenneth Cole Reaction, I was looking for something that had a generous enough amount of space to handle a laptop and a tablet (plus other items), looked professional, and was durable, without paying too much. I couldn't be happier with this case. I've had it for a month and it seems to be weathering without a problem. The material is a soft leather with ample padding and storage compartments internally. Some have said that the material seems cheap - that is not my experience. The leather is soft and fairly thin - but this is what I expected. As an aside, I owned a much more expensive Tumi briefcase a number of years ago and found that it was worn out within about 4 years. If this case lasts more than 2 years, then it is a better value than was my old Tumi

I spent a lot of time looking at many different messenger bags to use instead of a backpack or briefcase. I read all of the reviews both positive and negative and decided to go ahead and try this one and I cannot figure out why there are people who feel that it is cheaply made or poor quality. I recently started a new job so this was a gift to myself and I love it. It looks great and handles my laptop, binders, files, phones, etc. I basically carry my office with me both driving and flying. I was at a meeting the other day with the president of our company and as we finished up he came to me and told me how great the bag looked and wanted to know where I had gotten it as he was looking for a new one!

So all those people who didn't think this was a quality product are completely wrong! Well worth every dollar!

It holds a 16 inch MacBook Pro easily and still has plenty of room for a a book or two, a small bootle of water, wallet, earbuds, a snack and so on. The pockets are deep but it is still slim looking. The leather is nice and has a nice smell and feel. This is a great bag and highly recommended.

I needed a new briefcase for work. Ideally, my new purchase would accommodate my 15.4" laptop as well as my various other devices and paperwork and I wanted the lighter tan color. The specifications for the Kenneth Cole Reaction "Show Business" bag seemed to be closer to what I needed than any other possible selection on Amazon or other websites. However, I was still ordering sight unseen and that always poses a slight risk of disappointment upon delivery. I needn't have worried. This briefcase is gorgeous! The leather is creamy smooth and the storage volume is perfect. It gobbles up my laptop and offers the perfect combination of compartments and pockets. And it does all of this without being excessively large and bulky. It's professional enough in appearance for work yet has its own distinctive personality. This bag exceeded my expectations and a day does not go by without me patting myself on the back for such a wise purchasing decision. I could not ask anything more from an Amazon experience. and can recommend this briefcase without reservation.

This is a fantastic bag. I use it for travel and daily work. It holds my iPad Air, Lenovo Carbon X-1 work computer (or my personal macbook air), a notebook, the respective power cables, business cards, and travel documents easily. However, it is not really large. If I had to knock something about the bag, it would be the shoulder strap. The pad would appear to be coated with the non-nutritive cereal varnish that Clark Grizwald has over at Food & Drug, because that thing is so slick you could use it to coat a sled Christmas Vacation style. I have not replaced it though, so I am either a glutton for punishment or it is not really that bad.

I have to start off by saying that I just got the bag originally because I wanted something to fit in better at the office, because my old run down messenger bag from my younger years just wasn't good enough.

This Kenneth Cole bag is so above and beyond what I expected that I am actually sitting here, writing a review, about a bag.

For one, it looks SO much better in real life than it does in the pictures. Secondly, it's got some seriously strange physics going on where it's bigger on the inside than it is on the out -- I can fit a laptop, a sketch pad, several packets of beef jerky, an unruly amount of almonds, an umbrella, and I still have half the room left in this bag.

Not only that, but this bag is SOLID! It's just all around very high quality.

This bag is awesome. It holds a lot of stuff (I regularly carry a pair of flip flops, my laptop, a padfolio, a kindle, an external hard drive, and about 20 thank you cards in the main compartment and then a small first aid kit, plastic silverware kit, pens, lotion, and gum in the front pocket). It looks professional with almost any outfit and I have received many compliments on it.

The cons: The bag is made of leather, so if you're carrying it for an extended period of time, you're shoulders will hurt. The bag also needs to be closed a certain way. If you don't move the zippers up to be under the flap, you'll hear them jingle a lot. Also, if you don't close the snaps in the front, you'll hear those clack clack too.

I have had this for a couple of years now, so I have had a chance to really get to know what I like and don't like about it.

Pros
1) Quality leather and construction
2) Great padded laptop compartment
3) Plenty of compartments for folders and paperwork
4) Has a carry handle as well as an adjustable shoulder strap
5) Has holders for pens, pencils, and a stylus
6) Decent price point

Cons
1) Buckles on the front need 2 hands to release (a bit of a nuisance, especially when there are many quality one handed release latches available)
2) Single magnet holding back outer pouch makes it look a bit sloppy over time. It's also a nuisance when you are reaching with one hand to open the pocket to put something into it with the same hand and the magnet keeps slapping it shut. A zipper would fix both issues.

However, first one I received appeared used and didn’t come with a strap. They replaced it no problem. Second came with some slight imperfections such as scratches and worn away colors in spots. For the price, I expected perfection. That being said, I still love the bag and plan to keep it despite the imperfections.

The overall feel of the bag is pretty good. The leather seems fairly durable , though I wonder at it's long term lasting capability beyond a few years. I haven't had experience with cow hide before. My cons would be that it could use one or two more pen holds; the design of the buckles has good potential though they feel somewhat flimsy; the leather shoulder pad is stiff and doesn't fit too well over the shoulder, but then I'm skinnier so my case could differ from most.
The bag is a good size, even for me, and I'm more slender than most, weighing about 115 lbs at 5'6". I wear it at a slant on my back which works well; not too big or bulky. I like it's variety of pockets. The main pocket is well padded and could hold a laptop and a few things similar to a small external hard drive in the three separate pockets, as well as at least a couple notebooks before bulkiness started to take place. The rear pockets; one, maybe two notebook's worth of filling each. If you were to keep a USB wall adapter in it, thinner types might be better rather than a block type. The front compartment doesn't give too much space for small bulky items besides what's designed for the small features inside it, as well as a small notebook like a Moleskine. I like the pull-through handle feature, which feels pretty strong, held with both rivets and stitching. The lining of the bag feels like it could wear over time, similar to luggage lining.
Overall I like the bag. Good weight but not too heavy. Being the picky type, I've looked around quite a bit for a good messenger bag, and this is the first I've owned. It has a classy look, modern clothes or business. I'm satisfied with it and interested to see how well it will turn out after a while of use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite perfect

I was a little concerned after reading some of these reviews, but really liked the look of this case. I was very glad I ignored the negative ones and went ahead and ordered it. it has been great. It is made out of very thick, dark brown leather that is much better quality than I was expecting. The buckles seem very sturdy and it has a lot of room. There is a padded section for a laptop with smaller pockets for flash drives, portable mice, etc and another large section adjacent to that. There is a separate, thinner zippered section, a large pocket on the outside with a small Velcro closure and in front, pockets for pens, cards, and other miscellaneous stuff. The strap is not leather, but I think that is good. I've been carrying briefcases for 30 years and have had three with leather straps and every one broke eventually. They also tend to get stretched out if you carry a heavy load, which I often due. I have never had a web strap break nor have I ever had one stretch out. The color matches very well and it has a large leather pad for your shoulder. The only negatives are that because the leather is so thick and the metal buckles heavy duty, it is not light. However, I don't want a lightweight bag. I want one that will hold up and last. Also, the case zippers all the way around and the inside pockets have nylon gussets so that your papers don't fall out if you forget to zip one side. I have caught the nylon in the zipper a couple times, but was able to get it out without it ripping. If these were leather, they wouldn't catch. You just have to be careful when you zip it back up after unzipping it all the way.

This is one of the nicest bags I've owned and the price is great.

***UPDATE 1-31-15****
I am still happy with this case; however, one of the metal clips that holds the strap on broke recently. I thought I was going to have to buy a new strap somewhere, but I was able to connect the strap to the case with a round "key ring." I had purchased a chain link at the hardware store that matched the color of the rest of the metal clip which I was going to use to fix it. However, the key ring has been working great and is unobtrusive, so I'm just going to leave it. I am taking a star off for the clip breaking, though.

I just got this bag and it definitely exceeds my expectations. There's plenty of room as it easily fits my 15.4 inch Macbook Pro with lots of other stuff in the extra compartments. Though I haven't used it yet, it seems to be made of real quality and the leather is soft and feels great.

Not that it's a problem for me, but some people might be discouraged to find the color is a much darker shade of brown. I personally like it, but the brown is extremely dark, not the lighter richer brown as shown. I can't really knock the seller though, I took a picture for this review and the color looked pretty much the same as the color shown. I decided to check it out in different lighting and it remains pretty dark to my eye.

My one problem is that it arrived with about an inch of stitching undone around handle. It seems to be nothing more than a cosmetic error, but it's pretty annoying. I would have just contacted Amazon for an exchange, but I'm leaving for a trip so I'm stuck with it.

Have had this bag for about a week.

What I like:
- Comes packaged/wrapped very well (gives you a good initial feeling of quality)
- The bottom is designed such that the briefcase can stand up on its own
- Feels very substantial
- Looks pretty good. I saw some other reviews speaking about the type of leather used, I have no idea about that stuff, but I know it looks good, nice stiching, solid looking zippers

What I'm not crazy about:
- When walking the zippers for one of the pockets clinks against the strap for the brackt (easily solved by not zipping the pocket all the way)
- The material between the leather and the lining is very crinkly and loud. I'm guessing it's to give the case rigidity, but in my mind it kind of makes it feel cheap.
- Along with my note above about it being substantial in feel, this is definitely not a light briefcase. That's more your own personal preference though.

Overall a pretty decent bag. It was only $130, so it's not fair to expect it to be perfect.

Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2019

the bag is very nice and the zippers and construction seem stout enough to last a while. My only complaint is that the front pocket, the one that has business card holders and pen holders, isn't zippered or expandable. That is usually my junk drawer pocket and I'm afraid the leather will soon stretch with regular use. If it was zippered it would have been a better design but overall the bag is worth the value.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product for students and professionals alike!
Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2013
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
Bag is made of soft, well-tanned leather that has a nice, even color throughout the material. The stitching is very well done with strong, thick thread and the handle and strap rings are riveted in place to provide sturdy, long-lasting support. The bag has numerous pockets, including a padded area for a 15-inch laptop and portable hard drives, as well as plenty of room for legal pads, portfolios, cell phone, checkbook, pens and pencils, etc. The shoulder strap is sturdy, well-made, and is long enough to allow the bag to be worn across the body. The bag zips closed with sturdy, durable zippers and teeth closures as well as a flap over closure that locks with snap claps. The only thing about this bag that I did not like was the Velcro (hook and loop) closure on the outside back pocket of the bag. It seems cheap and unnecessary for such a nice bag that would work on a college campus and in a courtroom – great for students and professionals alike.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great laptop briefcase

Last summer I bought a new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina and was looking for a nice leather briefcase to carry it along with two of the small external drives I carry, cable connectors, etc., plus room for files and papers I may have to carry when out of the office. This is the first such briefcase I bought online, because you usually can't really tell if a briefcase will fit your needs by looking at a couple of photos and reading a description. I went ahead and chanced it and couldn't be happier! This is one of the best briefcases I've ever owned. It's light to carry, but protects the laptop well. It has the right number of compartments and pockets to organize all the various accessories one carries with a laptop and also gives you plenty of room for carrying papers. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I wished it had a strap that can be used to attach it to the handle of a carry-on suitcase, when travelling.

The briefcase is described as full-grain leather. This is clearly not that, it's labeled as genuine leather, which is a lesser grade than full-grain. While based on the price, it was reasonable for genuine leather, I am nonetheless irritated that it was described as such.

I'm not going to return it because other than that, I like the bag.

This is a really nice case, very durable and slick looking. It has quite a few compartments inside for various toys and gadgets, with a decent amount of space. I take my laptop and lunch to work daily in this and they both fit just fine. The leather is extremely nice, so much so that I honestly don't like taking it out in the rain.

I only have two MINOR complaints about this, which is why it has 4 stars vs. 5.

1) The strap tends to slide easily off the shoulder if the weight of the bag and contents aren't significant.
2) The buckles aren't the easiest to get undone in the front. Sometimes they take a little work to get open..

but again, these are VERY minor things. Great bag, great value, very happy with it thus far!!

Thanks

4.0 out of 5 stars Great upgrade from the standard issue Laptop bag...
Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2013
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
Bought this on impulse, wanting to upgrade the standard issue nylon laptop bag. Many of the other reviews speak to how the appearance 'upgrade' the bag instantly projects, so i won't repeat it.
Well worth the $130 price; Looks great, and has the right structure to protect the inner content. I'm still on my first week of use, so will probably add to this review later.

At first glance the only issues i can see right now are minor and not glaring:

1. the leather material used is not consistent in texture across each of the sewed panels. The differed texture means there are variations in the dyed leather colour, but one can argue it adds to the 'beaten up' look, which does well for the satchel-styling
2. The bag is comparatively heavy, so once you have all your stuff in there, it will feel heavy on the shoulder- which i'm not too bothered about but foresee sore shoulders when carried for long periods of time
3. A back panel strap should have been added so that the bag can be attached to luggage when travelling. Even the cheap nylon bags have it...so I'm going have a simple one made to be attach when needed

The bag will be used in a tropical climate, so i'll circle back in a couple of months to add any additional thoughts.

Overall, very happy with the bag and recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ken Cole Bag
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2012

I purchased this bag as a present. It is exactly as pictured. The dark brown bag has a slightly reddish tint to it, but I like the color alot. The leather is soft and has a slightly " broken in" look to it. The zippers and clasps work easily. The zippers have metal tabs, but the zippers themselves are a plastic/nylon material. The bag is that "in-between" sort of brief case...not formal, but not so casual as to look out of place with a guy wearing good, business casual clothing. For the money, this is a really nice bag. If you expecting a bag that's likely to last a lifetime, you better be prepared to spend more money. The attached tag says that the MSRP is $460. This is not a $460 bag by a long shot. But it's certainly worth the ~$125 I paid for it and I believe it will do it's job nicely for a long time if it's not overloaded and abused daily.

I was looking for a slightly formal computer messenger bag and found this on a good sale with free returns. I decided to purchase this and test, figuring I would send it back and get something cheaper.
Buut when it arrived I fell in love using it.
First off appearance, the brown is beautiful (if a little darker than the photo which I actually l like, but you should keep in mind), the only problem is the stiching is gold and stands out more than it should IMO, but still beautiful overall.
Very functional organization options. Room for all necessary items. Speaking of room, there was actually quite a lot compartents to store stuff.
A little heavier than I expected (due to leather being heavier) when fully loaded (also my laptop is rather heavy so no knock on the bag here), but very comfortable to lug around with the shoulder strap.

Overall fantastic. Only lost a half star for gold stiching and sometimes you have to look at the clasps to undo them. 4 1/2 stars

This was a Christmas gift for my husband, whose old laptop case was worn and bulging. The Kenneth Cole bag is very cool and stylish. Soft, supple leather, nice details, plenty of room inside. My only quibble is with the outside straps. As you can see from the picture, it looks like the bag closes with buckles, but there are actually metal clasps underneath (the kind you push and slip through a slot). They're a little touchy. What we realized is that there's really no need to fasten the clasps for everyday use--the flap stays in place on its own--so problem solved. Great for the value.

At first he wasnt sure what to think of the buckles, but now that he has used it he really likes it and glad they are there. The leather is very soft, good quality and the color is true to the picture. However, the bottom of the bag and the zipper are a darker shade then the rest of the bag ( I dont like that, but he is fine with it, but reason I took a star off). I would highly recommend this bag. I looked at so many on here and read all the reviews. Im very pleased that this is the bag I decided on.

I think this is a great bag...for the price. The look, the quality and funtionality overall - great value at this price point. I've read other reviews on stitchings where the straps can seem a little suspect, but it's NOT that bad. If anything, use common sense - try not to carry EVERYTHING in your bag. Also please be mindful where and how you leave the bag - for instance I've read other reviews commenting on the front straps (merely for show) don't lie if face down where you can bend the leather strips - effectively folding them upward. I've placed my bag standing up or on it's opposite side and it still looks flush. Again...common sense. Anyway...great bag for the price.

But I travel a Iot more and am finding I don't need to carry a ton of stuff with me in my new job function. So I was carrying a half empty backpack around. Also the hardware (pc, iPad) I carry is getting smaller every year. So this bag is actually perfect for me. Plus it has a much more professional look than just about any backpack. It fits much better under seats on a plane with room to spare for my feet if I can't find the overhead space.

Honestly, I rarely latch it though because of that, but it isn't as if you would lose something if you don't latch. I hope it lasts a long time. (I've only had it a month or so).

This is a very nice bag. I loved the design from the moment I saw it; the bag definitely looks sharp and sophisticated and transitions well from formal to casual and vice versa.

The only "bad" thing about it is that the color is a little deceiving; I was expecting a dark brown as the pictures suggest, and while it IS dark brown, it's more reddish than I would have liked it to be. Saying it is a "cherry" brown would be a stretch, but it almost is. Be prepared for this, as I was disappointed when I took it out of the box; not enough to return it, but I'm not as happy as I would be had it been the same color as the pictures.

If you don't care for the fact that "Kenneth Cole" is stamped on the flap, this is the exact same bag as the Samsonite Columbia Leather Flap-Over Laptop Bag the only difference as far as I can tell is that it is about 35% cheaper when you have the "Samsonite" stamp as opposed to the "Kenneth Cole" stamp.

However, after just two flights a Velcro attachment on an exterior pocket tore off. The bad thing is to get it repaired I have pay to send the bag to the manufacture and pay them $5 for handling/processing. One would think a bag that cost this much would perform better and would be backed by Kenneth Cole. I can't recommend this bag because of the inferior Velcro attachment.

It's still holding up at this point but I was disappointed that it showed signs of stress/wear so early. I'd be careful if you are the kind of person that overfills your business carrier, as this may not last as long as desired for that purpose.

I had this bag for three weeks before the stitching that attaches the shoulder strap ring started coming undone. I had been carrying little more than a tablet PC, a moleskine notebook, and a 200-page novel which hardly seems to warrant such strain as to rip out stitching. I'm sure it can be fixed, but for the price of the bag, a repair this soon seems unreasonable.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my boyfriend but was really disappointed when I got it. The quality of the bag is very nice; leather is a nice quality leather... However, the coloring in the picture is a bit deceiving. I purchased the brown bag.

The coloring of the bag is much darker, almost an espresso color and the stiching is very gold... As soon as I took the bag out of the box, all I noticed was the stiching... not the bag. I thought it was just me but asked my mom what she thought. She too thought the stiching was just too much and took away from the bag itself.

I sent the bag back and got a refund. I have to say, it was a painless transaction and was very impressed by how easy it was to get a refund. I really wish the sitching matched the actual bag color because it would have been a home run.

2.0 out of 5 stars !FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! Read for quick lesson in quality.
Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2015

A quick lesson: There are three main grades of leather that are extracted from a hide (not including bonded leather)...

Full Grain - This comes from the outermost layer of the hide and includes all of the grain (hence the name). Some characteristics include noticeable markings of the animal like scars & wrinkles, a tougher and more durable feeling texture, a tendency to develop a nice patina and age well with time, and a slight water resistance. This is the best leather that money can buy, and this is what this bag is claimed to be!

Top Grain - This is the layer removed from the outermost layer of the hide. The top layer of the leather is sanded and shaved off. Gone are the typically noticeable markings that might have been present in full grain leather. While this leather is still somewhat durable, it no longer contains the strongest fibers, which is why this grade typically does not age as well. This is slightly softer than full grain leather, and it has a much more uniform surface.

Genuine Leather - This is one of the biggest shams in the industry as it fools many consumers into thinking that "genuine" denotes high quality. This is far from the truth. This leather is what is left after the better parts of the hide have been stripped off. All that is left is the weakest corium layer of the skin. This material is imprinted with fake wrinkles and pores to resemble higher quality leather. Genuine leather is generally soft to the touch, highly water absorbent, easily damaged, and it ages horribly.

A quick review: I was very excited at the prospect of finding a supposedly high quality full grain bag that seemed to fit the style that I was looking for. When the day finally came to unbox my soon to be carrier of important business, I was immediately let down by what my hands felt. Why is this so soft? Please don't let it be.. And there it was, staring me right in the face. A big tag: "Genuine Leather." You got me good Kenneth Cole. At least Samsonite's bag (also made with the same cheap leather) didn't make blatantly false claims about their product. I've attached pictures to show to tag, damage upon arrival, and shamefully hasty build.

Pros - Looks good from a distance. Well padded. Many usable pockets.
Cons - Cheap materials (genuine leather, weak alloy for fasteners, weak zippers, frayed threads on stitching). Cheap build (single stitched, no rivets on stress points, folded in or covered up edges to hide the low quality leather.

TL;DR This product is a farce of low quality materials and cheap build. It's disappointing to see so many positive reviews for a knock-off. Please up vote this review to help others who might potentially waste their money.

*Update May, 2015: When I first made this review, I contacted Amazon about the misinformation regarding this product. Seems they haven't changed anything.

What I like:
1, Looks more professional than carrying the free laptop bag issued at work.
2. I like the way the pockets were created throughout the bag to help organize different items.
3. The leather is soft, which feels good on the skin.

What I dislike:
1. There are some places the leather scratched off, and it almost looks like it's not 100% leather throughout. It's very obvious.
2. The foam stuffed padding on the strap that goes over the shoulder tore apart within the first month or two. Not sure how to replace it, but then... I wouldn't want the same cheap one from KC.
3. The leather tongues that come out of the buckles in the front started to curl up a lot! It's very embarrassing and unprofessional the way they curl up all the way, and no matter how much I try to straighten them out with weights, they curl back up in less than 24 hours.

I would not recommend this product. With so many competing products in the market, I'm sure you can do better for the same budget.

I have to say the bag itself is very stylish and appears to be high quality leather. I have two issues. The first is the the bag tends to lean out from the top when you carry it on your shoulder. This causes a pulling off of the shoulder and it's very uncomfortable. I wrote to Kenneth Cole and this balance problem and they "Thanked me for my input" I wasn't expecting anything more.

The second issue is of greater concern. The outside pocket uses a magnet to keep it closed. The magnet is strong and worked OK but now (3 months old) the magnet has come apart from the bag and is floating around inside the lining. This leaves the outer pocket wide open and exposed. I'm planning on writing KC now to see what can be done to correct this. I'll keep you posted

As I stated earlier I like the bag it is functional and attractive but this latest issue will cause me to return it.

The product dimensions are 16x12x4 but the 12 height does not include the cover, which flips over the top of the bag, adding much height, or the 4" sides, which push out and increase the 16" width.

It would have costed $50 to replace or fix the strap at a shoe cobbler after the strap broke about 2 months of occasional use as a church bag so I went back to using my old scruffy bag. What a shame.

I don't know the dumb designer that designed the strap on these bags, the strap broke after only 2 months. This is the second Kenneth Cole bag and each time the strap broke after a few months of use. I was still within the warrantee period on the last one so I returned it.

That sad thing is that a lot of briefcase out today use similar strap, including those from Samsonite. This guys needs to innovate and develop quality products and stop using the same contract manufacturer of low quality products. Otherwise this briefcase would have been great.

2.0 out of 5 stars Strap clasp broke after three months
Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2013
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
This bag is great looking and the leather is nice and soft. Space wise it wasnt that roomy though and we found it hard to stuff a macbook and a few other items in there.

Most disappointing, after only 3 months of use, the clasp on the strap completely broke. We are looking at repairing it or may need to completely replace the bag. While the price point on this is reasonable for a leather bag, it wasnt worth it for only 3 months use. Will not buy this brand again.

Bottom line: if you are a road warrior, do not buy this bag.

This review comes six months following my purchase. Like many other reviewers, I was enthused by the look of this bag. I wanted something different than the regular black laptops bag I have been using to date. After purchasing, I did like the look. The only problem is that there was no way of strapping the bag to my suitcase, an absolute must when going through airports weekly.

Also after 2 months the first clasp on the front broke. While not big issue, it became clear the bag was not build for intense use. The 2nd clasp broke 2 months later. Now 6 months in the stitches that hold the zipper ripped and I can't open the bag anymore without significant effort. I will be tossing this bag and look for a bag that can withstand heavy travel.

As much as the back adorable, be careful when you wear light and white color pants, shirts and back, specially if the garment is cotton or wool.
Just see what it did to my whitish pant. If it does the same thing to my dark color clothes, they are ruined.
It seems i will never buy a leather messenger back anymore.
Wonder what to do with it since spring is on the corner and i only had this back for five months.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Looking with Poor Quality Control
Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2013
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
Great looking bag that seems like its made of quality materials, but the assembly quality control is terrible. I have had 3 different bags now all with one problem or another right from the factory. I think the quality and construction may vary from the different manufacturing facilities Kenneth Cole uses for assembly. There is also a Samsonite bag that is clearly made by the same company / facilities that has the same issues (I know this because I bought one also).

- First one - buckles kept sticking and the zippers were also sticking.
- Second one - leather types did not match on bag / inconsistent dying of leather and corner started to come apart.
- Third one - buckles would not stay snapped.

I am contemplating just returning it all together. It's too bad because I really do like the bag a lot and it has a nice amount of space.

This item is awful. The first one they sent, the clasps that hold it shut didn’t work. I got a replacement, but it had huge slits in the leather that had simply been superglued together. (My secretary saw them from across the room before I had even pointed them out.) The third one had cuts in the leather that hadn’t even been closed up and had glue stains in several places as well as cheap leather with all kinds of flaws. I would never buy this again. You expect much better from Kenneth Cole, especially for an item with a list price of $500.

1.0 out of 5 stars Diminution of Quality and Missing Items
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2020
Size: One SizeColor: Dark BrownVerified Purchase
On or around March 21, 2016, I ordered this bag. It was the best bad I have ever had. I took it everywhere. I was complimented constantly. In November of 2019, the bag was stolen while on a business trip. Initially, my concerns were allayed because I remembered I thought could just reorder exactly same bag from I loved Amazon again. Unfortunately, buying the same item did not yield the same result. I clicked on exactly the same order number in hopes of buying the same bag I had bought before. When the bag arrived it was a much lower quality bag for two reasons. First and foremost, it was comprised of a much lower quality leather than the exact same bag bag I bought before. Also was missing the shoulder strap. (That's not nearly as important; but it is still a bummer.)

The first time I bought this bag I loved it so much I didn't think twice about buying it again. It is only because I used this bag every day that I saddened by how much different the second bag was.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 2016 version of this bag again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bag Ripped After 2 Months
Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2013
Verified Purchase
I received this bag on September 28, 2013, just two months later on November 25, 2013, the fabric between the zipper and the leather on the main compartment ripped. I am not sure what caused this tear as I have not over-packed the brief case, I've only taken it to and from work and other meetings, and have always taken good care of this thing. Since the tear is right along the zipper, I suspect the zipper itself has torn the fabric as the bag is being zipped and unzipped.

I attempted to make a return or exchange, but apparently the time to make an exchange expires after just 30 days--so I'm out of luck. I've inspected the bag to try and find a solution, but since the tear is right on the line of the zipper, there doesn't appear to be any way to sew it together or make a repair without some serious reconstruction of the bag. Either way, the tear gets worse with every few times of zipping or unzipping the bag, so it's inevitable that eventually I will be left with a bag that has no way to zip up the compartments. Also, skeptics should search the terms "tear" and "rip" on these reviews and see others who have had the same problem.

I'm sorry I spent $120.00 on a bag that is going to last me a total of maybe 3 months.

1.0 out of 5 stars This bag will destroy your clothing and has other design flaws

I used this bag for two days and on both occasions after just a few minutes of walking my nice dress slacks were significantly stained black due to the dye bleeding off onto my pants. The first day this happened it was raining, so I gave the bad the benefit of the doubt and tried again. The next day was dry and the same thing happened. This is a messenger bag designed to be worn at someone side! How on earth did this get past quality control if it ruins pants if ones legs rub up against the side while walking. This is even more inexcusable when one considers this is a business bag. Luckily I was not wearing one of my suites....

In addition when the bag is filled up the top opening that hold pens and business cards ect is extremely hard to get into. The sides do not expand at all. This pocket becomes all but useless once I have my lap top and pad-folio in the bag along with a few other small electronics such as my kindle and GPS.

Finally, the two locks for the buckled lengths on the bag up front are extremely difficult to unlock. I wrestled with these for too long and finally opted to just leave these unlocked and just fold the flap over. This was not the end of the world as the two main compartments are zipped.

At the end of the day I do not think anyone at Kenneth Cole actually used a prototype for a day before mass producing these. If your a college student wearing jean and sweats every day and you do not plan on filling this up all the way or making use of the top pouch you may be happy with this bag. If you are a business professional like myself, I recommend you look elsewhere. For now I and going back to commuting with my backpack despite its lack of a professional appearance.

I love Amazon so I find it odd that here I am writing a review with the lowest rating. I ordered this bag as a gift. Amazon had a great price on it with free shipping. The first bag arrived and it was defective; a gash in the leather. The second (replacement) bag arrived and it was a completely different bag, not even in a proper Kenneth Cole box. The third (replacement) bag arrived today and the leather finish on the front is the bag is all spotted. So, now I am waiting for the fourth and hopefully final bag to arrive. I think the quality control of Amazon's products is nil as it their warehouse inventory system. If it wasn't for the price and me having time on my side to call then each time, I would not do business with this company. Go to your nearest department store and look at this bag and buy it from them! Forget buying it from Amazon unless you want to be best friends at your local UPS store!
